Carlos Maeztu

Carlos has been a community scientist with the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics since 2015.

Carlos holds a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics and has nearly 40 years of experience working across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. Since 2004, he has led the mid-Florida and North Florida chapters of the Fulbright Association, collaborating with visiting Fulbright graduate students, researchers, scholars, and faculty at the University of South Florida, University of Florida, and Florida State University.

Carlos has been a community scientist with the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics since 2015 and is now also involved with the University of Florida’s Cancer Center. He has contributed to Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)-funded projects in obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular health, and telemedicine. His roles have included serving as the lead patient for the Cardiovascular Health and Collaborative Research Group at the University of California, San Francisco, and for the National Blood Pressure Control Lab in the BP Home Study for four years. Recently, he completed the Cornell Weill study on telemedicine and is currently a stakeholder in the Harvard Pilgrim MedWeight Study to assess medication-induced weight gain.

With extensive experience in PCORI-funded studies from inception to completion, Carlos excels in formulating proposals, recruiting participants, maintaining engagement, and ensuring that participants are informed about the research results.
