Community Scientists Participate in PCORI Annual Meeting 2024

In October, Community Scientists Kristie Hill, Stanley Richardson, and Nadine Zemon proudly represented our program at the 2024 PCORI Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. This two-day event brought together researchers, patients, and advocates to share and discuss the latest PCORI-funded studies on topics such as health equity, mental health, women’s health, and artificial intelligence in healthcare. Our Community Scientists engaged in impactful sessions and networking opportunities that highlighted the vital role of community voices in shaping patient-centered research.

PCORI (Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research that empowers patients with actionable health information. By focusing on comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER), PCORI ensures patients and stakeholders have a central role in the research process, from design to dissemination.

Our Community Scientists had the opportunity to engage deeply with the meeting’s content. Kristie Hill described the experience as “eye-opening and empowering,” highlighting sessions on trust-building, patient-centered care, and the PCORI Ambassador training. “This experience has inspired my advocacy work and strengthened my commitment to amplifying the voices of underserved communities in research and healthcare transformation,” she shared. Stanley Richardson emphasized the insights he gained from breakout sessions on women’s health, youth engagement, and mental health. We are proud of the meaningful contributions our Community Scientists made at this event, reflecting their ongoing dedication to advancing health equity and community-informed research.
