On October 30th The University of Florida Health Cancer Center unveiled its groundbreaking Mobile Cancer Screening Connector, a 40-foot mobile unit designed to provide lifesaving cancer screenings and health services directly to underserved communities across North Central Florida. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including 3D mammography and screenings for cervical, colon, and prostate cancers, the unit aims to break down barriers to care such as transportation and access.
Community Scientist Carlos Maeztu proudly represented the Community Scientist Program during the launch event, highlighting the program’s commitment to fostering community-driven health initiatives.
This initiative, supported by a $1.5-million grant and the dedication of UF Health professionals, will bring high-quality, culturally tailored care to neighborhoods throughout the region. With plans to partner with local organizations and host clinics in accessible locations, the Cancer Center is prioritizing early detection and prevention to reduce cancer disparities. The participation of community scientists like Carlos Maeztu showcases the program’s ongoing efforts to enhance research impact and community well-being.
